Personal Story of How Nutrition Came to Our Home

My name is Claudia Meydrech, also known as "The Happy Nutritionist", and this is my personal journey to health through nutrition, which began in the mid-1980's.

At that time my children were small, and I was a very busy stay-at-home Mom.  My husband traveled all the time, and I did all that I could to keep up with the home.  When my husband was home, we were very involved in many church and children activities.

At some point I suddenly realized that I just couldn't do it all.  I was mentally and physically drained, and my health began to suffer. I felt sick all the time. My daughter was constantly sick with ear infections....she would be on antibiotics and Dimatapp almost monthly.  My son had digestive troubles.  Our doctor bills were outrageous!  I was fed up and desperate.

It was during this time that a friend invited me to come hear a man talk about herbs and how they benefit health.  This was a completely new concept to me, and I am naturally inclined to be skeptical so it sounded ridiculous, but I'm also naturally curious, and curiosity won.  I listened with interest, and came home with a book called "Today's Herbal Health" by Louise Tenney, and just marveled as I read all the health benefits that surround us and are available to us from plants.  I became a student of herbal remedies.

To make a long story short, still a little skeptical but a LOT desperate, I met with someone for a nutritional consultation, and started on a health program.  The improvement was remarkable!  I wanted to know what I could do for my daughter with her ear infections, and found out just what to do.  We went through two more ear infections using herbs instead of antibiotics or Dimetapp, and she never needed these medications again for the rest of her life. She was about 3 at the time, and is a married woman now. My son responded as well...so much so that his teachers commented about the transformation in him at school.

Though we started out with supplements, and improved with them, it wasn't long before I was changing our eating habits.  People saw how well we were doing and wanted to know why, and this is when my business began.  I went on to take courses in Nutritional Counseling and received my CN designation (Certified Nutritionist) through the former American Health Sciences University in Colorado, which closed in January of 2008.  My course of study was a balance of both traditional and alternative approaches to improving health, my strength and love being the alternative approach. I have also learned through working with those knowledgeable in the use of medicinal herbs and supplements, and by attending seminars and continuing education courses.

I took courses so that my knowledge went beyond telling people what herbs and vitamins to take, however, the supplements were very important...without them progress was much slower.  This is because there are phyto-nutrients in them that we can't get from our food.

That is a short version of a long and wonderful journey.

Though "retired" from actively meeting with clients, I still help people find health with nutrition online when possible.
